A Nostalgic Perspective on the Beauty of Youth
Photographer, South London

Chloe Sheppard is taking lots of images of teenage girls around her – and this brought her enormous fame. Her signature style is dreamy and bit nostalgic and always a touch of melancholy surrounds the scene. She loves the American movies and the girls of the 90ies – such as the former actress Drew Barrymore which inspired her shooting technique.

“In all honesty, I was sick of seeing my friends take shitty selfies that didn’t do them any justice and I wanted to create proper photos that they can look back on when they’re older and think, ‘hey, I really was beautiful back then’, rather than some lo-fi image from a camera phone.” so Sheppard in a previous interview.

Wouldn’t we all need a girlfriend as this? So ladies, no selfies for today but rather work on creating some lasting memories of your grace and beauty and meanwhile read on Chloe’s post its obsession and Bobs Burger as ultimate beauty secret.

In the art world currently I find most exciting that…
Kodak is bringing back Ektachrome film!

Number of unanswered mails in your account…
Too many to admit. :(

My perfect working outfit…
Right now I’m in a baggy shirt with some denim flares and I’m liking it so I guess this?

My favourite new brand discovery…
I recently followed this jewellery shop in NY on instagram and I’m so obsessed with everything they post. It’s @janes8103!

My everyday online art read is…
I check Sukeban mag pretty much everyday as I love going through their new editorials and documentary pieces.

My necessary extravagance is…
Film!

Most ridiculous thing I ever bought…
Probably a pair of boots that I literally never wear and never will wear. I try to be sensible with my money and only spend it on practical things haha but that doesn’t always work out so well.

My ultimate secret after long working hours…
All I ever end up doing is napping or binge watching Supernatural/Friends or Bobs Burgers.

Favourite collaboration of the art and fashion world…
Ooh that’s a tough one. Way too many to choose from, I’m so indecisive!

My favourite hashtag…
#staybrokeshootfilm (cos it’s so true).

On my office table I always have…
Post-its. I’m obsessed with making notes whilst I’m procrastinating.

The most arty city is…
I’ve only ever visited New York, and obviously London, but I always feel so inspired when in NY so I guess from personal experience I’d have to say there.

Who are the best dressed in the art world…
All of my art fashion icons are from the 70s-90s, so Jane Birkin, Courtney Love, Béatrice Dalle…

Art world gent I would love to have lunch with…
Well he’s no longer alive but Serge Gainsbourg.

Artist(s) we should have on our watch list is/are…
At the moment I can’t stop looking at Hannah Hill’s embroidery. Photography wise I saw an amazing series done by @jheydamc on instagram. If you haven’t looked at Sukeban magazine by Erika Bowes/Yuki Haze already then that’s definitely worth checking out too.
