The “Whose shoes are the ugliest?”-Trend has reached the peak of the iceberg.
It happened this weekend in the course of one of the most longed for shows: Balenciaga presented the result of its Collaboration with Crocs. The fashion scene was only just getting used to bulky sneakers like the brand’s Triple S, which was also inspired by Skechers, another non-high-fashion label, and now this! The “Foams”, this is how the shoes are named by insiders on social media, do not look like the classic slip-on sandal because of the 10 cm-platform made out of soft materials, but they still come in bright colorways like pink, grass-green and yellow decorated with brand gibbits.
“It’s a very innovative shoe. It’s light, it’s a one-piece foam mould and to me these kind of techniques and working with these kind of materials is very Balenciaga,” Balenciaga designer Demna Gvasalia commented his latest fashion coup. Gvasalia is not the first one sending crocs down the runway, Christopher Kane already flirted with the iconic brand in 2016, both cooperation are contentious. On social media the reactions are divided between those who see it as an artsy fashion project and those who are annoyed by intended ugliness. The eyecatching shoes will be available in Spring 2018, then the sales numbers will prove us, if this trend will worth to go along with.
Fun fact about the “Foams”: “In the future you will be able to 3D print them at home because they are all one piece,” said the forward-thinking Gvasalia.
Great idea, but is this also applicable for Louboutins?
