Originally from Paris, Laura de Gunzburg is shaking the art world in New York. Not only is she the founder and chair of Dia Art Foundation’s Contemporary Council, but she is also a contributing editor for Cultured Magazine and Deputy director of membership at The Cultivist. She is undoubtedly turning heads in the art world with her knowledge on the art scene and her appearance. In this feature, Laura shares all about soul-cycling, James Franco and Tree of Codes…
What does your ideal working outfit look like?
I love a casual black top, with a fun maybe even printed skirt, and a pair of pumps.
What’s best: heels or flats? Which brand or style?
Usually heels seventy-five percent of the time, but I always like a good flat. Most of the time I only wear Aquazzura.
What’s your favorite art-related blog or app?
Does the Baer Fax count?
What was the last thing you bought and loved?
A pair of sequins J-Crew shorts.
What is/are your personal style signifier(s)/identifier(s)?
You can always expect to find me with my left arm stacked with bracelets (I mix some nicer gold ones with some more fun and colorful charm bracelets) and wearing a big watch on my right arm. People are always asking me how long it takes me in the morning to put them on, but the truth is I keep everything on all the time.
What’s your necessary extravagance?

Three things/products you always need to have in your purse?
Chantecaille poudre parfaite and by Terry Baume de Rose.
What’s your ultimate beauty secret after long working hours?
Laying with my back flat and my feet up, with a Biologique Recherche masque Vivant.
What’s/are your favourite work(s) of art?
I gravitate and love minimal/abstract works. If I had to chose an all time favorite artist, it would have to be Felix Gonzales Torres. I love his intention to work collaboratively.
What in the art world are you most excited about at the moment?
Really looking forward to Tree of Codes opening this Fall at the Park Avenue Armory. Directed by Wayne McGregor, with Olafur Eliasson doing the creative and music by Jaimee XX, this is a new contemporary ballet inspired by Jonathan Safran Foer’s artwork in the form of the book Tree of Codes.
Most sexiest art person?
James Franco.
Where are you off to next?
The Dan Flavin Foundation, in Bridgehampton, where I spend my summer weekends!
Where is your next art trip/travel going to be?
Brazil, first week of September for the Rio Art Fair.
In your eyes: what is the most arty city?
In the US, I would have to say that LA is the most exciting emerging art scene right now.
Someone you have in mind to call the perfect artworld gentlemen?
I haven’t met him yet.
