It’s not a chip from casino roulette but it is related to money – a lot of money. “Blue-chip” essentially designates well-established galleries or high-paid artists. Basically, they are at the top of the food chain in the art world, located in the richest neighbourhoods such as Mayfair in London, or Chelsea in New York.
